Where does my student store belongings?

· Students who have continuing contracts with on-campus housing may leave some of their belongings in our storage during their off-track(limit is five containers 58 – 73 quart-sized). Students must sign a storage waiver. I will provide them with labels. There is a storage fee if their continuing contract is cancelled.


What does my student need to bring to campus?

· A list is included on this blog. CLick on the link titled "What do I pack when I come to Perkins Hall?" This list also includes items that are supplied.

· Rexburg has a Deseret Industries, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, K-mart, and Wal-Mart where items on the list can be purchased. Idaho Falls is located 40 minutes south of Rexburg and has several stores.

What if my student needs a meal plan?

· Dining dollars may be purchased through Food Services. Their phone number is 208-496-2250.

· On-line information about Food Services can be found at: http://www.byui.edu/foodservices.

Can my student access the internet from his/her room or apartment?

· Wireless Internet access is available

· Students may contact the Help Desk (208) 496-9000 for questions regarding their computers.

How close is on-campus housing to other buildings on campus?

· The women’s halls are centrally located on the east side of campus.


My student just received his/her acceptance letter and found out he/she was accepted to a different track than the housing reservation. What do we do?

· It is the student’s responsibility to let the Housing Office know his/her track or admission status. Please call the Housing Office at (208) 496-9220 or e-mail at housing@byui.edu to let them know of the change.

· The Housing Office will try to move his/her reservation to the admitted track. The original application date is honored for all track changes and handled on a first-come-first-serve basis.

My student is receiving Financial Aid. How does this apply to housing?

· Student loans, Pell Grants, etc. usually pay tuition first, housing second, and then books and supplies.

Will my student need a parking permit?

· Yes. Students living in on-campus housing need a “D” permit for parking. Parking for the women’s halls is in the Pioneer Lot located on the east side of campus between the women’s halls. The “D” permit will allow students to park in these lots only.

· Students will then need to register their car with Parking Services. “D” parking permits are not available on-line.

· There is a nominal fee for parking stickers.

What if my student needs to cancel a contract?

· Students who have entered into a contract and want to cancel may do so 61 days before the contract begins with a $50 termination fee. Students wishing to cancel after 61 days before the start of the contract will need to sell their contract. Students should contact the Housing Office if they wish to cancel their contract in either case.

What if my student wants to move off-campus?

· Please review the cancellation dates if the contract has not begun (see above).

· Once a contract has begun, the student is responsible to sell his/her contract. For more information, please contact the Housing Office.

Where do parents stay when they come to visit?

· No overnight stays are allowed during check-in or checkouts. This means the week before and after the check-in and checkout dates.

· Immediate family members and other guests of the same sex may stay overnight at times other than check-in or checkout. They must have the permission of all roommates and have registered with the head resident. The maximum time a guest can remain in the hall is three (3) days.

· There are many local motels in the area. You may call the Housing Office for listings or the Rexburg Chamber of Commerce at 208-356-5700. Be sure to call in advance for those reservations.

Will my student have a landline telephone?

· With the increase in cell phone usage by on-campus residents and in an effort to keep rent costs down, landline phones will no longer be provided in each apartment on campus. This will be effective starting winter semester 2010.

· A public telephone will be available in the main lounge of each residence hall. Local calls are free. Residents can make long-distance phone calls from these phones with a calling card. On-campus calling cards are available at no charge through the Accounting Office located in 130 Kimball Building. Residents will be billed monthly for any long-distance calls.
