Weekly Special: Fridge and Freezer

{Note: This is a four person job to make it go faster, everyone needs to pitch in. Have a party!}

Person #1. Remove everything from freezer and fridge. Discard any moldy/frostbitten food (check with your roommates, though). Clean or throw away moldy, stinky containers. Unplug the fridge, and move it next to the dishwasher/sink area so Person #4 can clean the floor. Empty the garbage right away.
Person #2. Heat water in a pan while Person #1 is cleaning all items out of the freezer. Use steam from a pan of hot water to defrost ice on top and sides of freezer (DON'T put hot pan in freezer and let it sit, it will warp your pan. Hold the pan in the freezer up near the ice to melt it). Remove all ice and clean walls, ceiling and floor of freezer. Wipe out any remaining water.

Person #3. Wipe down all shelves, walls in fridge, after Person #2 has defrosted and cleaned the freezer. Put back all the food in the freezer and fridge.

Person #4. Get out the 409 cleaner (or something else of your choice and wash the top of the fridge (remove dust and grime). Wipe and clean all messages off the sides and front of the fridge (if you want to save what's written on the fridge, have someone put them on notecards and sticky tak or use magnets to put them back up/or you can re-write them after I've checked your apt.) Sweep and mop the floor where the fridge had been. Move the fridge back to the original spot.
